Cruinniú Na bhFliúit..the Flute Festivals Dates: 7-10 April 2010

Inspired by the fact that all the other Irish traditional instruments have their own weekends, festivals, etc. a group has gotten together to organise the first ever Irish event focused on the wooden flute in traditional music. Among the organisers and fluteplayers involved is a huge reserve of experience in both playing and teaching in this field, and it is our intention to offer an experience which differs from other similar schools in some important aspects.
Numbers of participants will be restricted, so that not only will class sizes be small, but individuals will have a great deal of access to the teaching staff, both through the daily formal events and the social calender every evening.
Although acquisition of a repertoire of tunes is an important part of the learning process, the classes will offer many other levels of involvement in the tradition, over and above the essentials of repertoire and technique.
Through the medium of the seminars and discussions, participants will have the chance to develop and explore the ideas that they come across in tuition.
Finally the lectures and film are designed to provide what we believe is a seminal part of involvement in any tradition.....context, especially the type of context which is denied those living and playing outside Ireland.
